Current Educational Funding Streams
Grant 101: School Development Grant
Schools and local authorities are free to spend this grant on any purpose to support improvements in teaching and learning in schools, leading to higher standards of attainment for every learner. The School Development Grant has been expanded to incorporate the following,

iv. Targeted Behaviour and Improvement Programme (BIP)
v. Gifted and Talented
vi. Enterprise Learning
vii. ICT in Schools: Infrastructure and Support (the matched funded element in 2005-2006) **

x. Specialist Schools
Local authorities should allocate sums to each school they maintain, according to whichever is the larger of :

105a. Targeted School Meals Grant
Local authorities should note that this is transitional money for three years only and should make plans that will be sustainable beyond the three year period. This grant is ring-fenced at local authority level but not at school level.
105b. School Meals Grant
Purpose of grant
This is the second of three years of transitional money and, as with most other school grants; this funding will not be ring-fenced at school level. Provision for children to remain on the premises at lunchtime, but not be restricted to the building fits into this expenditure.Basis of allocation Grant will be allocated to schools on the following basis.
Primary and special schools and Pupil Referral Units:Lump sum of £1,070 for each school plus 50p per full-time equivalent (FTE) pupil
Nursery schools:
Lump sum of £1,070 for each school plus 50p for 50% of FTE pupils
Secondary schools:
Lump sum of £1,500 for each school plus 50p per FTE pupil.
Budget 2006: additional funding for personalisation
This means the direct payments received by an average primary school from the School Standards Grant (SSG) will increase from £31,000 in 2005-06 to £44,000 in 2007-08; and for an average secondary school from £98,000 in 2005-06 to £190,000 in 2007-08
Q Will schools be required to spend the extra money on personalisation?
No. The new money for personalisation, is not ring-fenced.
Q Do these sums include direct capital payments to schools?
No. These are purely revenue payments.
